Renato Corino gave his 2016s 4-5 days on the skins in rotary tanks. The wines were then racked into French oak barrels for their malolactic fermentations and aging. As always, the Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata is the star here, but the straight Barolo is also terrific. Corino fans will also want to check out the Barolo Roncaglie, which is made by Renato’s son. Stefano, in a style that might hold some clues as to where these wines are headed in the future.

2016 Renato Corino Barolo Arborina DOCG
€ 59,00 NO VAT (private collection)
The 2016 Barolo Arborina is powerful and tightly wound, with explosive energy that is just waiting to fully emerge. Readers will find an especially rich, potent expression of this Arborina site. Black cherry, violet, lavender and spice add to a real sense of gravitas. The 2016 needs time in bottle to be at its best, but it has terrific freshness and persistence. The significant presence of clay in this portion of Arborina contributes to the wine's size. This is such a gorgeous wine.
