There are the best wines Chiara Boschis and her brother, Giorgio, have ever made. I was just blown away by what I tasted. The purity and class of the 2016 is magnificent. The 2016s were whole berry crushed and spent 7-10 days on the skins. Malolactic fermentation took place in steel, after which the wines were racked into oak between December 2016 and January 2017. The Mosconi is aged entirely in cask, the Via Nuova is done half in barrique and half in cask, while the Cannubi is done mostly in cask.

The 2016 Barolo Mosconi is a gorgeous wine made all the more remarkable given that Mosconi can't really be said to be a top-level site. Dark and imposing, the 2016 captures all the breadth and tannic clout that are such signatures of this site. This is an especially brooding, virile Barolo, but Chiara and Giorgio Boschis clearly brought out all the best the vineyard had to give.

Deeply pitched spice, mocha and leather nuances meld into a core of plush dark fruit as the 2019 reveals its considerable charms. The aromatics alone are mesmerizing, but the 2019 has so much more to offer. I admire the wine’s balance and allure, both of which it has in spades. Like so many 2019s, Guado al Tasso is a wine more of energy and persistence than volume. Clean, bracing mineral notes linger on the sublime finish. The 2019 spent 18 months in barrel, 90% new.
